Soemadi D.M. Brotodiningrat joined DBS Indonesia in February 2006 following his long and brilliant career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, which he launched in1965. He was appointed as Ambassador to Japan and Micronesia from 1998-2002, and Ambassador to the United States and five countries in the Caribbean from 2002-2005.

He served as Director General of Foreign Economic Relations of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) from 1995 to 1998. Prior to that, he also served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations (UN) and other international organizations in Geneva (1991-1995). He was the Director of Multilateral Economic Cooperation at the Department of Foreign Affairs from 1988 to 1991. From 1982 to 1984 he served as Deputy Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation of the Foreign Affairs Ministry before serving as Minister Counselor at the Indonesian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York 1984 to 1988. He began his career as Section Head at the Directorate of Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1965 to 1971, and then his career took off as First and Second Secretary at the Indonesian Embassy in Brussels, Belgium which was also accredited to Luxembourg and the European Community from 1971 to 1975. After 25 years led by political appointees, he was the first career diplomat to lead the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, which is one of the most important embassies for Indonesia.

Soemadi D.M. Brotodiningrat completed his undergraduate study with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta (1965) and later earned a post-graduate diploma in Diplomacy from the L’Institut International’ d’Administration Publique, Paris (1969). He was awarded the Officier de l’Odre de Leopold from Belgium, the Groot Officier in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau from the Netherlands and the Order of the Rising Sun from Japan. He also received the 20 Years Satya Lencana Karya Satya, 30 Years Satya Lencana Karya Satya, and honorary star Bintang Jasa Utama from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
