About the Challenge

Kopi Ong is a food and beverage counter service specialising in freshly-brewed coffee and tea for time-starved professionals in Singapore's central business district. It takes pride in crafting its signature beverages to each customer's preference - but this would inevitably mean longer preparation times. Kopi Ong's management recognised this and wanted to explore solutions to reduce the waiting time for its busy customers.

The Solution

Introducing Kopi Ong Foodster, a chatbot that sits on Facebook Messenger, a ubiquitous mobile communications platform easily accessed by most.

In the news: DBS unveils chatbot for ordering, paying for meals through Facebook Messenger

The chatbot is driven by AI technology to guide customers through a step-by-step remote ordering process. Upon payment, customers can simply collect their orders directly from the counter at their own convenience, eliminating any unnecessary waiting time in the process.

This cashless and improved journey also allows staff at Kopi Ong to better manage orders, so that they can focus on delivering only the best beverages to their customers.

The Startup Experience

By introducing Every Botty to suitable partner merchants like Kopi Ong, Startup Xchange helped to propel Every Botty's expansion into the F&B industry.

Startup Xchange also shared advice on the best practices of the Foodster chatbot's design and conversational flow. Both teams worked together closely throughout the project to consistently collate and analyse user feedback to formulate improved iterations for deployment.

After working on the Kopi Ong project, the Foodster platform has continued to onboard new clients including Subway, Nude Seafood, Da Paolo, Gemstar, Omnivore and Old Tea Hut.

Our goal is to help clients streamline their business processes by utilising artificial intelligence and machine learning. Our partnership with the DBS Startup Xchange team helped open up possibilities and opportunities for us by connecting us with suitable merchants in the F&B industry. The team was also steadfast in advising us along the journey and provided us with guidance on best practices with regards to the chatbot's design and its conversational flow for a more holistic customer experience.
