HONG KONG,17 May 2016 -

In a groundbreaking industry first, SMEs in Hong Kong can now easily open business accounts with DBS Bank (Hong Kong) without ever having to set foot in the bank’s branches.

The launch of the bank’s “Meet Online” Business Account Opening Service marks an innovative, first-of-its-kind breakthrough that transforms the traditional business account opening process for SMEs into a seamless and engaging online experience that can be completed anytime and anywhere. “Meet Online” eliminates the hassle of scheduling face-to-face meetings at bank branches during office hours by enabling SME customers to meet with the bank's relationship manager and complete the due diligence process via video conferencing.

“Meet Online” key features:

  • SME banking from home
    • account opening due diligence by video conferencing via FaceTime or WebEx video communication tools
    • courier service arranged to collect related documents from customer’s relevant registered business address
  • Easy and convenient account opening
    • customers can submit account opening application anytime through online platform
    • account opening can be completed as quickly as one week

Alex Cheung, Managing Director and Head of Institutional Banking Group, at DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, said, “As a leader in SME banking, DBS Hong Kong understands the needs of SME customers. In February of last year, we introduced the ‘Online Account Opening Service’ to enable SME customers to apply online for a bank account in just 15 minutes. We now fully digitise this process with ‘Meet Online’, which is, in fact, an extension of our ‘Online Account Opening Service’. This greatly enhances the account opening experience for SME customers as everything can be done with the ease and convenience of a mobile or tablet device anywhere and anytime, thus allowing customers to have more time to grow their business and to live more, bank less. DBS Hong Kong’s customised and innovative solutions support SMEs for sustainable growth.”

DBS Bank (Hong Kong) is committed to driving innovation and digital banking and has invested considerable resources in numerous strategic technology initiatives, including the DBS ideaLife app, DBS Loans app, mobile banking solutions, a revamped ATM user experience, and more. DBS Bank (Hong Kong)’s accomplishments in innovation have been widely recognised. Among recent awards, the bank was named “Best e-Bank, Hong Kong” at The Asset Triple A Digital Enterprise Awards 2015, won “Hong Kong Domestic Technology & Operations Bank of the Year” at the Asian Banking & Finance Wholesale Banking Awards 2015 and Bloomberg Businessweek’s Financial Institution Awards 2016’s awards for “Commercial Banking – Excellence” and “Digital Innovation – Excellence”.
