Transformational Forces for the New Economy


Hong Kong, 09 Aug 2023 - DBS Bank hosted the "DBS Greater Bay Area Conference 2023" in Shenzhen with the theme on "Transformational Forces for the New Economy". This is the third Greater Bay Area (GBA) Conference since 2019, showcasing DBS Bank's commitment to continue investing and supporting the economic growth in the GBA. The conference focused on the new momentums of economic transformation in the GBA and helping customers to seize new economic opportunities in new fields. Since the first GBA Conference in 2019, DBS has made significant progress in strengthening its businesses and expanding its business scope and footprints.

In 2023, DBS Bank will continue to deepen its presence, influence and cooperation in the GBA. Our key projects include:

  • In June 2023, DBS Bank signed a cooperation agreement at the 13th Meeting of the Singapore-Guangdong Collaboration Council. After Singapore and India, DBS Bank will establish the world's third technology centre in the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City in the GBA.
  • As the first bank to have three Southbound partners under the Wealth Management Connect (WMC) scheme, DBS has built a series of unique products and an extensive distribution network to reach customers across nine cities in GBA. In May 2023, DBS Bank's WMC Northbound service has been officially launched, providing Hong Kong and Macau investors with more convenient cross-border investment services.
  • DBS Bank and Shenzhen Rural Commercial Bank continue to deepen their strategic partnership and work together closely. Relying on the local network and professional insights of Shenzhen Rural Commercial Bank, they will support the development of the real economy in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The DBS GBA Conference gathered regional leaders and experts from various industries to discuss how to explore and capture business development and growth opportunities in the current new environment, amidst current economic recovery. CY Leung, vice-Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the former chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, delivered a keynote speech on "GBA: Two-way and Mutual Opportunities for Hong Kong and Guangdong". Warren Huang, vice president of Huawei Strategy Research Institute, shared a keynote speech entitled "Science and Technology Innovation for 2030". In addition, guests discussed hot topics on transformation and globalization of China’s EV industry, new trends on China's digital economy going global, evolution of the digital ecosystem under the new development environment, the emerging opportunities in wealth management, and exploring the value of REITs. Over 500 enterprises and guests from the GBA participated in the event.
