Through small grants and regular stipends, we have supported over 100 social enterprises and continue to do so through our partners in our focus countries. Some of our social enterprises have shown great promise while other continue to strive to build stronger models. A thread that ties all of them together is their desire to bring in a better tomorrow.
DBS Foundation supported Social Enterprise, Shanghai Xiao Long Bao Agency in China provides training in design and helps build careers of the hearing impaired. With DBS’ support over 1200 of the deaf now work in advertising & design thereby building their self-esteem as well as gaining sustainable livelihoods.
DBS Foundation’s grantee, Shanghai Be Better Education gives lower-income latchkey children of China a chance to overcome hurdles with their after-school experiential learning centers that offer practical learning supplements to school and family education.
From an ex-convict to a skilled chef and a savvy business man, Enoch Teo made the journey that affirms the power of second chances. Immanuel also took a similar path before they collaborated to launch E&I Concepts. Armed with a DBS Foundation grant, E&I went on to open 2 new outlets, hired and trained 4 beneficiaries in a year.
Trinkets and clothes worn Torajamelo are not just beautiful, but more importantly provide independence for women in Toraja, Indonesia. The social enterprise works with the community of weavers and creates a community of supporters and customers in Jakarta and beyond.
Through team building activities and sports, Society Staples aims to raise awareness, educate, correct and challenge public misconceptions of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and to encourage healthy interaction and understanding between the community and PwDs. Participants not only learn to communicate better, grow in empathy and become a better team, they step into the shoes of a different body and walk into a new mindset.
Cowism provides training to farmers on sustainable organic farming practices and sells indigenous cow's milk from farmers. Cowism is a social enterprise founded by Chetan Raut and is supported by the DBS-TISS Social Entrepreneurship Programme. It promotes, motivates, trains & helps farmers take up sustainable organic farming practices & rear Indian cows for sustainable & profitable agriculture.
UnCancer India, a young start-up by cancer survivor Sushant Kodela and supported by DBS-TISS Social Entrepreneurship Programme has taken up the challenge to reach out to every cancer survivor, living with or through cancer, helping them find the right support and solutions in overcoming their challenges in dealing with cancer.
Bharat Calling links students from the rural area in central India to educational institutions across the country. Started with just 1 school, the initiative now has spread to 27 schools with more than 100 role models in higher education.
Krishi Naturals, a venture that is supported by DBS-TISS Social Entrepreneurship Programme, promotes organic farming business and works with the farmers in the state of Gujarat to provide them with sustainable livelihoods.
Sampurn(e)arth is a Mumbai-based start-up focusing on urban waste management. As part of their operations, women waste collectors are transformed into becoming waste managers. This initiative is funded by DBS-TISS Social Entrepreneurship Programme that provides seed funding and business mentorship to social enterprises.
Threadcraft forms a link between the artisans and the buyers by reaching raw material to marginalised women artisans, guiding them and supplying high quality products to the market thereby creating a win-win situation for all.
T.Ware is a Singapore based Social enterprise that is constantly looking to push boundaries and make a difference in people’s lives. T.Ware’s app-controlled jacket is a groundbreaking social innovation transforming the lives of people with special needs, autism, ADHD etc through deep touch pressure technology.
Bizlink Café – housed at the Institute of mental Health Singapore, employs recovering mental patients to provide them with a decent and interesting livelihood opportunity. For the employees at Bizlink Café, work is more than just about making a living. It is also about making friends and having companionship to prevent social isolation.
Bettr Barista is Singapore's only Certified B Corporation that provides disadvantaged youth and women with holistic barista training to equip them with life skills. This social enterprise has positively impacted 160 women and hopes to reach 600 more in the next 5 years.
