Alchemy Foodtech
Our beginnings
We started Alchemy Foodtech because both of Alan's grandmothers passed on due to diabetes complications. Five out of six of his mum's siblings are also diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
We have come across many people, both diabetics and regular individuals, who struggle to stay away from their favourite foods to keep their diabetes or diabetes risk under control. We want to help change that and bring better quality of life to people in a sustainable manner.
We are committed to achieve sustainable health for 10% of the population in each city we are in.

The work we do
We have noticed, from direct experience with Alan’s family and feedback from caregivers, that individuals with diabetes or pre-diabetes find it challenging to resist the food they love. Especially in our Asian context, where certain staples like bread, rice and noodles make the bulk of meals. This tends to result in a lack of dietary compliance - despite their doctor’s advice and the prevalence of education campaigns, and ultimately, worsening their condition.
We empower food brands and home cooks to have tasty and healthy carbohydrates by simply adding our ingredient, Alchemy Fibre™, when they cook their staples. Alchemy Fibre™ is clinically proven to lower blood sugar spikes without changing the taste, colour, and texture of carbohydrates like rice and bread. In the long run, this can help them to reduce the risk of diabetes.
We are proud that homegrown flagship chain food stores, like Boon Tong Kee, Yu Kee Specialty, Swee Heng and Yum Cha now serve meals with Alchemy Fibre. Our ingredient makes each serving a healthier meal.
Impact created
While our ingredient was developed to help diabetic and pre-diabetic individuals, it is also suitable for daily use by mainstream consumers looking for healthier alternatives without compromising on the food they love.
To date we have,
- Made more than 8.5 million meals healthier through Alchemy Fibre™.
- Made tasty healthier eating more accessible with close to 300 touchpoints in Singapore.
- Launched collaborations with close to 50 partners to include Alchemy Fibre™ into meals that the mass market consumers.
How we partner with DBS Foundation
The DBS Foundation Social Enterprise Grant will help increase operational and production efficiency that will support more F&B partnerships, and separately enable education and outreach activities to financially disadvantaged individuals to benefit from Alchemy Fibre.
